Take Heart!
John 16:33
I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.
Scripture Reading – Psalm 90
Jesus warns his disciples that trouble is coming, even to the point that they will be scatterd (John 16:32). But then he says, “But take heart! I have overcome the world.” These words are both honest and hope-filled. Jesus doesn’t promise a life without hardship, but He gives us something far better: His victory. Psalm 90 reminds us of our human frailty—“Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.” (v.12) Life is brief, but God is eternal. In the face of life’s troubles, our hope isn’t found in control or comfort but in the One who reigns over time itself. When we face uncertainty, we can rest in Jesus’ unshakable triumph and God’s everlasting faithfulness. His overcoming power gives us courage for today and confidence for eternity.
Worship helps truth settle deeply into our hearts. “Man of Sorrows” points us to Christ’s suffering and victory on the cross—our ultimate source of peace. “Praise the Lord (Joyful, Joyful)” reminds us to lift our gaze from trouble to God’s goodness, filling weary hearts with praise. The Doxology simply and powerfully declares God’s worthiness in every season: “Praise God from whom all blessings flow.” Finally, “Great Are You Lord” proclaims God as the giver of life and breath, worthy of all worship. Each song forms a rhythm of lament and praise, grounding us in God’s greatness even when the world feels uncertain. Singing worshipful songs becomes the way we “take heart,” as Jesus says, anchoring our souls in His victory and eternal perspective.

Fill me with joy and courage that come from trusting You fully. Amen.
