March 6, 2026 – Authentic Care
Psalm 133:1,3
Behold, how good and pleasant it is when brothers dwell in unity!...It is like the dew of Hermon, which falls on the mountains of Zion! For there the LORD has commanded the blessing, life forevermore.
Scripture Reading – Matthew 22:37-38 & Matthew 20:20-28
Psalm 133 celebrates the beauty of unity among God’s people: “Behold, how good and pleasant it is when brothers dwell in unity.” This kind of community is not accidental; it flows from hearts shaped by love for God. In Matthew 22, Jesus teaches that loving God is the greatest commandment, and from that love flows our care for others. Yet in Matthew 20, the disciples struggle with ambition and status, asking who will be greatest. Jesus redirects them: true greatness is found in serving. Authentic community grows when we adopt Christ’s posture of humility and sacrifice. Caring for all people means choosing service over status and love over self-interest. When we live this way, unity becomes more than an ideal, it becomes a witness. Together we reflect the servant-hearted love of Jesus to one another and to the world.
The songs we sing help shape our understanding of community and care. Praise to the Lord (Joyful, Joyful) calls the whole congregation to lift praise together, reminding us that worship unites God’s people. Living Hope proclaims the victory of Christ that binds believers together in shared hope. Lord I Need You teaches humility, reminding us that every person stands equally in need of God’s grace. And How Marvelous celebrates the wonder of salvation that invites all people into God’s family. These songs remind us that authentic community begins with shared praise and shared dependence on God’s mercy.

Reflection Questions:
1. How can serving others help create deeper unity within the community of believers?
2. In what ways might pride or ambition make authentic community difficult?
Prayer:
Lord, shape my heart to reflect the servant love of Jesus. Help me care for others with humility, patience, and grace. Guard me from pride or self-centeredness that harms community. Teach me to see others as You see them and to serve willingly for their good. May our church reflect the unity and love that come from You so that the world may see Christ in us. In the Name of Jesus, Amen.
