July 17 – Begins With Worship
Psalm 100:4–5
Enter his gates with thanksgiving, and his courts with praise! Give thanks to him; bless his name! For the LORD is good; his steadfast love endures forever, and his faithfulness to all generations.
Scripture Reading – Philippians 1:1-14
As we begin our sermon series, All Things Through Christ, Psalm 100 reminds us where the Christian life begins: with worship. We enter God's presence not because we have earned it, but because the Lord is good, His steadfast love never fails, and His faithfulness endures through every generation. Gratitude is rooted not in changing circumstances but in the unchanging character of God.
Paul demonstrates this truth in Philippians 1. Writing from prison, he overflows with joy and thanksgiving because his confidence is anchored in Christ, not in comfort. He thanks God for the partnership of fellow believers and trusts that the God who began a good work in them will bring it to completion. Even imprisonment has become an opportunity for the gospel to advance. Paul's perspective teaches us that when Christ is our greatest treasure, every circumstance becomes another opportunity to trust Him and make Him known. No matter what this week brings, God's goodness remains constant, and through Christ we can respond with thankful hearts.
Today's songs invite us to respond to God's goodness with faith-filled worship. Goodness of God reminds us that God's faithfulness has pursued us throughout our lives, giving us countless reasons for gratitude. How Deep the Father's Love for Us turns our eyes to the cross, where God's love was displayed most clearly through the sacrifice of His Son. 'Tis So Sweet to Trust in Jesus encourages us to rest not in our own strength but in the dependable promises of Christ. Finally, Christ Be Magnified challenges us to desire one thing above all else: that Jesus would be honored in every part of our lives, whether in seasons of joy or hardship. Together these songs echo Paul's message in Philippians: Christ is worthy of our trust, our gratitude, and our wholehearted devotion.

Reflection Questions:
1. What circumstances in your life make it difficult to recognize God's goodness, and how does Philippians 1 encourage you to see them differently?
2. In what practical way can you choose this week to magnify Christ instead of focusing primarily on your circumstances?
Prayer: Father, thank You for Your unchanging goodness and faithful love. When my circumstances are difficult, help me remember that You are still at work and that Christ is enough. Teach me to trust You more deeply, to give thanks in every season, and to live in a way that magnifies Jesus. May my words, attitudes, and actions point others to Your goodness as I walk with confidence in the work You are accomplishing through Christ. Amen.
